MASAI STORIES

Design starts with a feeling

November 2026

Meet Marie Vesterbæk, Head of Design at Masai, and step inside our Copenhagen design studio.

Every Masai collection is shaped by women, for women — with comfort, movement and respect for the body at its core.

Inside our Copenhagen design studio, ideas take shape through conversation, materials and hands-on craftsmanship. Softness meets structure. Intuition meets experience. And every collection begins with one simple question: how should it feel to wear?

“For me, design always starts with a feeling”

It has to feel right. Not only on the body, but in everyday life.

When a new collection begins to take shape, the team starts with how women actually live in their clothes. They need freedom to move, room to feel comfortable and, above all, to still feel like themselves.

That thinking sits behind Masai’s soft, relaxed silhouettes — considered shapes designed to work with the body rather than against it.

For Marie, good design lives in that balance between comfort and femininity. When something feels effortless to wear, without losing its character.

A design team built on shared values

Design at Masai is never a solo process.

Four designers bring different experiences, instincts and perspectives to the table. Ideas are shared, questioned and refined together.

That difference is part of the strength.

What matters is not that everyone sees every style in exactly the same way. It is that the team shares the same approach to design — allowing the collections to feel distinctly Masai while the expression continues to evolve.

Copenhagen: our living moodboard

Copenhagen is part of the design process.

On the morning commute. Along the cycle lanes. By the water. In the way women move through the city and make a look their own.

“The city is a constant source of inspiration. From the early morning commute to quiet moments by the water, it offers a living moodboard of contrasts.”

Clean architecture against soft textures. Structure with ease. Calmness and movement.

Those everyday impressions find their way into collections through relaxed silhouettes, thoughtful details and carefully chosen materials.

The aim is not to chase every trend. It is to create something that feels modern and relevant now — and still feels right beyond the season.

“If it doesn’t feel right, it isn’t finished”

Good design should never feel forced.

From the choice of fabric to the way a garment falls and moves, every decision comes back to the experience of wearing it.

Intuitive. Tactile. Honest.

The ambition is simple: to create clothes women want to reach for again and again. Pieces that feel good, look beautiful and naturally find their place in everyday life.

When design steps into the world

For Marie, one of the most rewarding moments happens far from the studio.

On the street. On a station platform. In the metro.

“It’s amazing to see something you’ve designed on a woman in the metro. To see how she wears it, how she makes it her own.”

Because that is when a design becomes something more.

At Masai, clothes are not there to define the woman wearing them. They are there to give her room to make them her own.

Masai stories

Masai stories are about women's lives and the beauty and strength that emerge when life's passions are allowed to unfold, and when one chooses to listen to oneself and do what one dreams of.

Masai stories are portraits of committed and passionate women - women who inspire us every day. The stories are about diversity, openness, about courage, and not least about the freedom to be and choose oneself.
